Bowen Theory Academy International Conference: “Systems Biology, Bowen Theory, and Symptom Development”
Save the Date: October 7-8, 2022
- Michael Kerr, M.D. (Director, Bowen Theory Academy, Islesboro, ME., Director Emeritus of the Bowen Center for the Study of the Family, Washington, D.C.).
- Marta Bertolaso, Ph.D. (Associate Professor for Philosophy of Science, Faculty of Engineering, University Campus Bio-Medico of Rome, Italy). Dr. Bertolaso’s interests include Systems Biology and the development of philosophical training in research, teaching, and research group promotion and coordination.
- Kathleen Kerr, MSN,MA, CNS (Founding Board member of the Bowen Theory Academy, Islesboro, ME. and Senior Faculty at the Bowen Center for the Study of the Family in Washington, D.C. from, 1978 to 2012).
The purpose of the conference is to demonstrate that the rapid growth of Systems Biology over the last several decades is extremely important for advancing Bowen family systems theory’s connection to the natural sciences.
Dr. Bertolaso will, among other things, apply Systems Biology to “Rethinking Cancer,” which is the title of a 2021 book release that she edited with three other researchers and also co-authored a chapter for the book entitled, “The Search for Progress and a New Theory Framework in Cancer Research.” In 2016, she also authored the book “Philosophy of Cancer – A Dynamic and Relational View.”
Dr Kerr will focus on how Systems Biology facilitates Bowen theory’s progress toward a solid link to the natural sciences. According to Dr. Kerr, the key to developing Bowen theory’s link to the natural sciences is recognizing that a family system is yet another level of biological organization.
Ms. Kathleen Kerr’s clinical case presentation will highlight and demonstrate how “emotional process” is a contributing factor in the development of cancer and other symptoms.
